Pulsating Xenia Nightmare

Now both of these incidents are my fault, but it amazes me how such a stupid simple coral can be so delicate...
1. Lights were left off aquarium for about 10 days. Everything survived except xenia, which melted away.
2. Heater unplugged for something and forgot to plug it back in, caught the tank at 67 degrees. It had been this way for about 12 hours. Everything was fine, now my xenia have all gotten small and look like they are going to die AGAIN!!!
What is it with these little things? I thought they were hardy?

For some people they are hardy, but not at 67 degrees and no lights for 10 days. Give them a little time and see if they don't make a comeback.

if they live youll probably end up with a billion stalks. ive heard of people throwing it in the sump with no light for a week or two to "frag" it. i guess a lot of it dies away and then whatevers left regrows.

Well we will see, I should have made it clear that it was two seperate incidents...the first time they all died and i bought more, this batch is working on dying right now...we will see what happens tomorrow...

I had pulsating zinia in my tank. I bought it on a shell and put it on the sand bed. It died when my tank crashed. I always liked it and thought it was pretty.
The other day I went in to LFS and they had some. I almost bought a piece and then I looked closer. This stuff was growing every where! There were a couple pieces that like morphed onto the glass!! it was growing up the walls.
Yea, I decided not to get any. I heard it can be a night mare.
I hope yours comes back, but not like that.

Okay, that makes more sense. I was thinking, wow, that would be pretty tough for anything to make it thru

You might have a shot for some of it to recover. Did you bring the temp back up slowly once you found it at 67?

Hi,
My Xenia melted away once too. Nothing was left but a little puddle of goo. It took about a month but from the goo appeared baby Xenia

I had a lettuce coral do the same thing. It was nothing but a tiny little stub now it is gorgeous. I have learned not to toss out what appears to be dead or dying coral.
