I bought some pulsing xenia yesterday and it is opened up just about all the way put it isn't pulsing. I use reef solution and lugol's solution so Their is iodine in the water so why isn't it pulsing? My water parameters are all fine. Does it just take some time before it starts pulsing again or what?

ph is big with them. If you have alot of current on them they will not pulse. try moving them around, they will pulse.

I agree, pH and also higher alk levels will improve pulsing. At least this is what i have experienced. They seem to pulse more toward evening when the pH is highest.

I found a lot of info about xenias in Eric Borneman's book called Aquarium Corals. One thing he sais about xenias, that sometimes you see nice frag of pulsing xenia in the LFS, you buy it and bring it home and it never pulses again. Sometimes after some period of time in your tank it suddenly stops pulsing with no reason. God knows what they want .

I have a similar situation with the Pulse Xenia.
But I feed my xenia with liquid food for filter feeders. The xenia starting to pulse and never stop seen.
I used plastic eye drop to push to liquid to the xenia.
Now it's spliting to other rocks on it's own. Save me getting my hand wet to frag them :)
It not be the case for your xenia, but try it any way.
good luck
