Pump advice

I am in the process of upgrading from a 54g corner to a 125g tank and am looking for advice on external pumps.
My LFS is suggesting the Sequence saltwater pump or reeflo pump series because of how quite they run. My only problem with that suggestion is the price.
I would like to know if anyone here has any expierence with this product or any other suggestions.
Thank You
Katz

My favorite pump is Iwaki. I have had one running silently and completely maintenance free for 6 years.

I've been running a Sequence Dart on my 125 for several months after having had a bad experience with a mag 24. I can't begin to tell you how happy I am with the Dart, it is dead quiet.
I understand the Iwaki's are wonderful pumps, but they are not cheap and I believe you voiced some concern over price.

As a general rule of thumb you want around 15 to 20 times turnover per hour... 10 at the minimum. Take the size of your tank and multiply it by 15 and that is how big of a pump you need. Yes, the Iwakis are expensive but I think they are worth it. I have never had any noise or problems out of mine and it's at least 7 years old.

Thanx for the info. I do not have a pump on my 54g right now because this system has no sump. No room under my corner tank for a sump/fuge. The Sequence that my LFS has for sale cost 299.97. I think that is very high for a pump but I will have to price out different brands of pumps.

If you get a sump!
Just make sure your overflows can handle the return pump volume. If you size too big, it will be a waste and either you'll have to restrict the output and not all pumps are rated to be reduced flow. You could tee it and feed the excess back to the sump and reduce the back pressure on the pump. However, this is a waste of pump. Try to size it for your overflows and head pressure of piping then use a closed loop or PH to makeup the X turn over rate.

My new tank is a 125g reef ready AGA tank.
Sump/fuge is 42L x 15W x 16H, it is made out of 1/2 inch acrylic.
I have not planned for a close loop system as I do not have enough knowledge on building one. I plan to use powerheads in the tank to help with flow.
I have not yet made up my mind as to what brand of ph I will purchase. I am stuck on either SEIO, Tunze, or the new hydor koriala.

Look into Pan World. I have heard some pretty good things about them - they were designed by the head engineer at Iwaki and the quality is reported to be similar and the price better (cheaper).

I Just bought the Pan world external pump. I cost me 159.99. I can't tell you how well it works because I just finished all the plumbing and am still waiting for the glue to dry. It is about the same price of a Iwaki with a american motor. It had good reviews so I bought one.
