pump maybe too powerful

i just set up my new external pump which is in line with a ball valve. i seem to notice little cyclones on the very top of the water, and when they come into contact with the water return, it gives me an awful noise with little air bubbles. I like to keep the water moving with the ball valve open( or closed a little bit), but the cyclenes are too noisy. does anyone konw of a fix for this?
