Alot depends on cash flow, and what your intentions are for your tank?????? If money isn't an object and depending on size of tank, for a skimmer I'd go with something on the line of Deltec skimmers and Red Dragon pumps......Both are super nice.....
On a more conservative budget I'd choose Sequence for my pump, either GEO, ASM, or EuroReef for my needlewheel skimmers, or if your looking at a beckett style skimmer, I would look at Barrs' and MRC skimmers......
For filtration I'd definitely look into a sump....Again this all depends on budget and space limitations as well.....What size tank are we talking about and what are you planning on keeping in the tank??? What about lighting?

Well depend on what you plan to keep in your tank. Thoughregarless I would always recommend a skimmer rated for tank much larger then the tank and also a currculation 20 time the volume at minimum per hour. I preferr Mag pump good pump and last long . Maxi jet power heads. I would always do more then the minimum and you will be safe though like I said it does depend on what you plan to house for reef tank & fish only tank have different needs. You may want to get a few books for they really help you get an understanding. Good Luck!

Problem with Mags are they don't like the sudden stop and go and some have major problems with being restarted after a bit
