purple brownish algae(?) with photo

I have had this problem off and on and would like to know how to get rid of this purple brown algae(?) that forms on my sand. I try getting it out and moving my sand around but it only takes a day or two before its back.
What do I need to do?

It is possibly cyanobacteria. It can range in color from red to brown to purple or blackish.

Yes it's cyano...You may have phosphates, in fact I am nearly sure you do. Also overfeeding and low water flow causes it.
Remove as much as you can by hand and do water changes to get rid of the phosphates, adding a phophate remover will help as well. Then mabey redirect your power heads so all areas get some constant water flow. Be very careful to not overfeed your fish or corals.
