purple firefish question

I already have 1 purple firefish and was wanting to get another 2 as I always see them schooling at lfs's. But upon a little research it seems that they should only be kept singly or at most a pair.
Is my brief research correct?

Yes that is what most people do. You can add another pair to your tank and see how all 3 go together. If the first one you had starts making trouble or he is picked on by the new pair take him out and trade him back in for somethan else.

I'm in the same situation and my LFS said the purlple fire fish that is already established in the tank will probably pick on the new one. There's always the chance that it won't but I know how hard it can be to get fish back out of a reef tank so I didn't buy another one. They are awesome fish though I could see why you want more than one.

I went through this also..I put three in and over time ended up with one. Bought two more a few months later and ended up with one...the King I guess..

I added a second to go with my first purple firefish and they do fine together and my understanding is that they are a schooling fish, so given all the right conditions in a fish tank I would think you could keep even more. JME
