purple firefish question

I just put a purple firefish and a red firefish in my tank the other day, the red is out and eating away, I have not seen the purple anywhere since he went in. my tank is covered so I know he did not jump out. Do they normaly hide like this?

i just got a red and a purple firefish too and the same thing is going on in my tank. the red is out all day but the purple is out intermittently, hiding for a few hours at a time. i guess the purples tend to be a bit more skittish.

i had a 4 inch purple firefish for 2 years. I think they are more skittish than the reds. He had this one spot in the flow area he always hung out in, but if he got scared he would always go straight for the rocks. (it took him awhile to come out but eventually he came out all day.. but you just have to wait a long time...) also when i added other fish like my yellow wrasse i had back then he got scared and hid for a week or 2 and then would come back out..

Yes two types can be an issue.
Purples will hide very well at times. I am lucky mines "Hang Out"place is front and center of my tank. He will spend all day in an area about like a 10 inch circle facing into the flow..............

thats exactly what mine did after he got used to the tank! and he was like that for 2 years till he died for an unknown reason.. maybe he was just old? He was 4 inches when i got him and i had him for like an additional 2 years..

i would be careful. I added both at the same time to my tank (46 gal). all i had was rock, 2 clowns and a royal gramma. The gramma picked on my red firefish (Kotex) and he wound up getting red bruises under his skin. He then dissapeared. I still have my purple firefish to this day and he is out a whole lot, except for when he's getting picked on by the other fish. He is real skittish though.
just be careful that the 2 firefishes are getting along cause i dont htink you're supposed to get both in 1 tank
