I just received a purple lobster from saltwaterfish.com this morning. Tonight I came home to find what seems to be a dead lobster sitting out in plain view. I'm pretty sure I have the dead lobster in a bag right now, but I read that they will molt and leave the old exoskeleton in plain view while they recuperate. Since I get the impression they like to hide a lot, it seems very odd that it would have wandered out into the open like that for any other reason. However, I don't see anything that looks like an exit point on the thing I removed from the tank. Does the molted exoskeleton look similar enough to the living creature that I could be mistaken? If so, does anybody know how I can figure out for sure whether the lobster died or I just have the exoskeleton?
