Purple Lobster

Does anyone have a purple lobster? I was concerned about having one attack my fish--especially at night when everyone is sleeping. I really want one! Currently I have a coral beauty, 2 perculas, 1 tomato, 1 heniouchus butterfly, 3 camel back shrimp, 1 cc star and 1 brittle star.

I would be too, but Shimek's book says they are pretty harmless.

You should be fine. Purple lobsters aren't aggressive. I have one and he bothers no one. I have never seen him attack anyone or had an incident. He just sits in his cubby of rock and waits for food. That is it.

I have a purple lobster as well and have not suffered any fish casualties. He doesn't come out at all though, ever. I see him sometimes when I look hard enough. I do have a lot of rock work though and plenty of hiding places.

I have a purple lobster, I never see him, he'll come out at feeding time, grab food and reverse back into his cave. A beautiful addition to the tank. Mine did eat my camelback shrimp though and if you get one, he'll more than likely do the same. Your fish, hermits, and snails should be fine though.
The first weekend I had mine, I looked for him and all I seen was his shell laying around in pieces, I was like oh s**t something ate my $35 dollar lobster this quickly. Then I found out they molt and there he was hiding safe and sound.
I recommend you get one, they are much more interesting then cb shrimp anyhow. So if your cb shrimp get ate, thats part of the food chain, right!

Mine likes krill, I drop some in front of his cave and he grabs them and takes them in with him. They'll eat almost any meaty foods.
