Purple Rain Monti

I've only had this frag for a few weeks but just noticed some pretty incredible growth!!!!! The frad had just been chipped of the mother colony and there was no growth onto the reef plug when it arrived, but now it's grown down and out....just a little bit less than an 8th of an itch I would guess

The above photo was taken on 1-10, so in 19 days my purple rain has grown almost a 1/4"! Down the side of the substrate that it was on and then over the top of the reefplug....

3x250 10k's and 4x96 actinics. I was a little nervous when I purchased this frag as it was TINY, it's maybe 1/2 around and it was $$$$ The color is amazing and these photos do no justice. It's almost a neon purple, even though it's the smallest coral in my 125 tank, it's the first one people notice. The guy I purchased from said that medium flow and bottom of the tank would produce the best color.

Now you see why I'm obsessing over the equipment and lighting for my new sps tank. Here are a few more, my scarlet isn't doing so well.

Orange one is "plains of Mars" last one is the "Scarlet o'hara" I was on a waiting list for almost a year just for these tiny frags. I'm going to go ahead and make several grooves in the reef plug (actually a cross section of some tonga branch) into these grooves I'll insert some shards of broken shells, this way the monti will creep onto the shell, when about a 1/4" has spread onto the shell all I have to do is use an exacto knife and make one clean cut at the base of the shell and snap off a piece, then super glue the flat piece of shell onto some interesting dead coral that I have and then glue that onto some reef plugs. I hope to be able to produce about 10 good sized (if you call .25 x .5 good sized) frags within the next few months.

My plan is to trade as many frags of these guys as possible, I'm always looking for anything exotic or hard to find. Here is another of the Rain

Those look awesome! I got a monticap that is supposed to be purple but I have PC's so it is a blah brown.

lately after doing tons of research i've developed a new found respect for SPS corals. I always found them to be boring solid branches and whatnot. But after all the research many of them are quite beautiful. Some are still ugly as sin, but not all. I'm wanting to grab a few frags and get the ball rolling here soon. :D

I will probably ship it off to someone once it warms up. It's so boring looking in my tank anyway....

Maxalmon, I will be in Vegas in May. If any of those are ready to frag by then I would love to get a piece of whatever you have available. I could bring some stuff with me, I'm sure Delta will love that.
Seriously, if we can work something out, and I can't bring you anything, I would be happy to buy any of those three pieces.
Also, is there any good LFS in the Vegas area worth visiting? If your getting those type of corals locally, I would love to stop in those shops while I'm there.

I would rather purchase corals from a Walmart superstore than buy from any local store here in Vegas!!!!!! It's so bad, way beyond words to describe how horrid the stores are, stuff like bleached 3 headed frog spawns for $125... I prop and frag almost everything, what I can't trade for, I purchase online. May will be about time for these to be fragged, who knows, I may have some available.
