Purple Tang in 75 too much?

Would a purple tang grow too big for my 75 gallon or could it be my big fish? I have a pair of perculas, going to get a flame angel, mandarin goby (after Christmas), maybe a neon dottyback, and I don't know what else if anything. Look like a good plan or does it need some removing and changing?

Mandarin Goby's a cool looking - but really hard to keep. I would think your better off with a gobie that has a job - cleaner.
As far as the tang is concerned - pick a real small healthy one and return it when it gets too big.

Personally, I think you'll be fine w/ a purple in a 75. I use to have a 75 before upgrading and I had tangs in there no problem. I think a purple tang will be ok in there as long as you don't buy one that is already 6+ inches. TJ

yeah, i think a purple would do ok in there. the only thing i can see is agression. they can be pretty mean. if you use the 1" per 5 gals lets see if it will work...2 percs-5", manderine-3", flame-4", and purple about 8". that would be 20" of fish. i think it would be ok, and the dottyback would fit in there as well if you used that method. purples are indeed beautiful, my favorite of all tangs. bo

Once again... My experience w/ purples was that they weren't EXTREMELY aggressive. It SHOULD be the last fish though. I'd get the purple and flame angel at the same time. And it'll take a long time for a purple to reach 8 inches. Believe it or not, in my tank, right now I have a 6 inche Scopas and 4 inch Yellow. They don't do too bad. They fight every now and then, but have never cut each other. TJ

Thanks guy/girls. I thought it should work. Thought of making the madarin the last fish but I guess I'll wait. Not going to add the madarin until around Christmas or later, give the tank time to mature.

Go for that purple tang, and heck if he does get to big, which I'm sure you will be a good judge, then return him and get a new baby one.

Yeah, I have seen them for $100 before, it's almost cheaper with shipping to buy one online, some sites have specials on these for like only $39..... Which seems like a good deal, even if they are small. I always like to start with small fish and watch them grow.

I like to start with small fish too. Today when getting my Neon Dottyback I had the guy give me the smaller one that was hiding in the filter.
