I picked up a sailfin at a lfs last night. I also ordered a powder blue and a yellow from swf.com. I was wondering with a 200 gallon would I be able to add a purple do you guys think? Or since I have two tangs from the Zebrasoma family would that be too many from the same family? What do you think? Thanks:)

I think you will be alright because you have a large tank.

If you do get both of them, I would try and add them around the same time. My yellow tang is very agressive towards new additions i could just imagine if i added a Purple probably kill him and my tank is a 300 gallon.

sailfins are pretty mellow.
but the blue and yellow are not.
definitly add them at the same time like said and have plenty of holes in the rockwork.
i have 4 tangs in my 225 and they get along great.
i am not big on yellows they have the worst reputation for fighting ,funny because they are the cheapest.
my friend lost a $700 black tang to a $25 yellow a few months ago.
it was his own fault and he knew it.
he just added the black to the tank after the yellow was in there for months instead of removing the yellow to the sump for a couple weeks.
i love tangs and i will be adding a blond naso soon .its just a matter if more or less tricking them into playing nice.
when i added my 8 inch achilles to my tank my 5 inch purple swam out of the rock work and bit him on the side.the achilles just turned and looked at him once and that was it.
nature at its best.

I have a purple and a yellow in a 150. I had a sailfin and decided to replace him when he died, so the yellow wouldn't get too bold. I'm not sure about that. I am tempted to take out the yellow. He is a bold litle bugger even if he is the one getting the ripped fins. The purple hides alot. He was in a tank with 2 yellows and they got along. Mine are like oil and water. I am afraid something bad is going to happen. IMO I wouldn't do it.

I think the yellow killed the sailfin despite them being together for 2 1/2 years. The sailfin was big and healthy. Can't think of anything else that would have happened.
