any behavior patterns that might suggest thier gender.. for example a fairy wrasse will jump and change colors to impress a female fairy wrasse and to get her to mate with him i have a dark red fairy wrasse and a female fiji scots fairy wrasse and the red fairy wrasse turns orange yellow and opens its fins and jumps in front of her...

color. some males are very dark purple. females a little lighter.
That is difficult to judge in PT's though. They drop their color at the slightest stress. How would you tell? You could have a slightly stressed, for whatever reason, male or a completely complacent female.

Well, that's kinda ironic cause in pretty much every species I can think of, the male is usually the more vibrant and pretty.
mallard ducks
peacocks
cardinal
anthias
some lizards
tons of other fish and birds...
And look at MEN!! The have bigger chests, smaller butts, harder nails, longer lashes, and usually healthier hair and skin!

That being said, my daughter is positive that ours is a male. She struts up to any animal and declares it's s.e.x. immediately. I don't think she is even aware of what she's doing, but of the ones I know of, she's always right. ie clowns.
She's 4, so she doesn't know about the size thing. Anyway, here is my (according to her) male, purple.

Well espkh9, I just showed your tang to my girl, just to see what she's say.
First she said... "Ooh, look at that shrimp coming out of that hole, I wish I should have that"

Then I said what about the fish, is it pretty, and she says "Yeah, she's pretty", I said, "She?" and she says, "yeah, actually that's a girl, but that's our fish and our fish is a boy" and for a second she looked all confused, so I scrolled down and said "No, that's our fish", she looked relieved, had me scroll back up and with out knowing they are the same fish, she declared both your pics to be female.
creepy.

Mine is way darker than yours, he usually looks black in the tank. I was actually sorta disappointed that he isn't all vibrant purple, but yours looks very light to me.

Pretty mind you, but light purple.
