i love my purple.
not a fan of the yellow as they are extremly aggressive.
$90 how big is he?
i bought mine 6 or 7 years ago for $40 and the store want $150 for them now so $90 sounds like a great deal.

I have seen mediums around here for $70 - $80. Very pretty fish if not stressed. I have seen a couple that were housed in too small of tanks and their coloring looked really bad, probably due to stress.

He's about 2.5 inches,I thought $90 seemed like a good deal. They go for $140 here.I've had little trouble with my yellow and do like him,but they seem to be a dime a dozen, everyone has one.So i was thinking of going purple.Everytime i go to my LFS there he is in a 75 by himself.I thought he was thier pet or something,he's been there awhile.
so i asked about him and they said he is for sale for 89.99....
May have to snatch him up before someone else does .Thanks guys.

What size is your Yellow? If the yellow is smaller, you should be able to keep both if you introduce the Purple right.

If i had to guess, they are about the same(slight edge to YT....maybe),but he's been in there over a year,it is definatly his tank..Is a 125 big enough for 2 tangs along with the rest of my community?

The only thing I don't like off of your profile list is the two damsels (personal opinion), but two tangs should be fine in the 125. But yes, if they are similar in size, the YT has an advantage, and has an attitude by nature. You can try to slowly introduce (using a cage/separation partition/etc) and if it doesn't go well, then remove the YT. You mentioned that you might get rid of the YT anyway, but I would give them a shot at each other first. While introducing, keep them apart, but make sure they can see each other visually. The yellow will probalby go ballistic for the first 1/2 hour, but hopefully will calm down.

Yeah, the 2 damsels(yellow tails) are actually pretty laid back.Getting the purple is not set,but i would like to keep my YT.I will give your ideas a shot. Thanks for your advice.....

Most fish that come from the Red Sea seem to be in the $100+ range...It's a long trip to the U.S. from there. Purple Tangs are found elsewhere, but seem more prevalent in the Red Sea.

i added my 6 inch fowleri to my tank with my 6 inch purple and my 8 inch achilles tang, the achilles went at him for about 6 hours then only here and there for the next day then that was it.now they dont bother each other at all.
funny when i added the achilles the purple being a little over half the size of the achilles bit him once ,the achilles turned and looked at him and that was the end of that,i quess the purple figured he was out muscled.
do you have a sump you can put the yellow in for a week and move some rock around ,then put the yellow back in he wont have his usuall territory.
if they are the samesize it might work.

4 of them, to be exact...

I would not pay $90 for a Purple. They are not that rare and/or hard to get.

yea but i still would not feel comfortable about buying a fish that is that stressed out and than have the poor thing ship from Florida to Indiana.

Ive never really seen HLLE fortunately. Can't those be nursed back to good health with a good diet and vitamins in their diet?

Agree, and for the record, I have never purchased a fish online. I'm just comparing the costs. But with due respect, I have seen in other instances where some species are way over priced in certain areas vs. others. For example, Banghai Cardinals. Recently someone was posting about their unavailability, and high costs when there was one. Well around here, they are a dime a dozen. For that matter, my male is about to spit out a litter of 30-40 that will just become food for the rest of the tank. Point being, in my perspective, the Purple is no more "rare" than the Yellow, Powder Blue, or many others, but this supply/demand seems to vary by local.

I never have either,i actually enjoy giving my LFS the buisness. Its a great little place. So,if they are not at all rare,i wonder if 90 is too much.I have not seen the eye it buy it section. The other section has them at 140!The one i see at my LFS almost weekly looks to be in great health.Hes been there awhile. It is a fish, and convincing the wife won't be easy, now that i'm hearing they are not rare will make it alittle harder still!
I thought they were on the rare side.Well glad i asked. Thanks for all the help
