recently my reef devil hasnt been pulling much and the company said it was probaby due to a new chemical ive been using. I realized that since ive been dosing purple up and using the new Chemipure it was around the same time the skimmers performance declidned. has anyone heard of chemicals additives or carbon affecting skimmers? can the new chemipure be that good that the skimmer isnt pulling any more gunk out of the water?

carbon will absorb some of the same things your skimmer is trying to skim out, as the carbon becomes saturated, the skimmers production will increase.
as for purple up, skimmers pull out calcium, thats a calcium supplement, so by rights it should increase or not affect your skimmers out put.
also do you test for Iodine and calcium? if you dont test for both you shouldnt use purple up as it contains both iodine and calcium and Iodine is really easy to OD a tank on.
carbon also adsorbs Iodine extremely well so dosing with iodine while running carbon is just filling your carbon with iodine. making it absorb less of the things you want it to.
one of the most important things in this hobby is testing before dosing. if you cant test for it dont dose it.
