putting the clown back

I've got a question about my maroon clown.
He was living happily in my FO tank for almost a year. When he got bit by my dogface puffer during a feeding frenzy, I put him in the hospital tank, to heal. Now he's ready to go back. But I'm unsure if this will happen again. Am I just taking a risk putting him back?

They were both put in the tank shortly after it cycled. But I added the clown about 3 weeks later.
I'm just not sure if it was a one time thing or what? They used to get along pretty well before. The tank usually gets fed 4 to 5 times a week & I had not fed the previous night. I guess that's why they were so hungry. It looked to me like the clown just got in the way. That's how it got bitten. The puffer was not specifically coming after her.
