q tip sponge outbreak

i know q tip sponges are good filters but i am gaining about 25 a day or more it is insane. is this good bad or just ugly. i have also noticed hard curly tubes on everything. thanks

post a pic. I think that is wierd. Ive had them in my tank many times but it nevet gets bad.

That happens in my tank every couple of months. The tubes are feather duster tubes. Both the feather dusters and the q-tip sponges are filter feaders. After a while they will disappear. No need to worry.
 
Your tube things on the rocks are prolly vermetid snails. Could be a sign of over feeding. The won't do any harm unless they are spreading their web on corals and can annoy them and keep them from opening.
 
Also I think those sponges usually grow in areas of low flow. Maybe try adjusting or adding some flow. But since they are filter feeders this could also go hand and hand with over feeding. Hope this gives you some ideas.

q-tip sponges like low light, low flow (though they'll adapt to anything but high) and high nutrients. scrape them off and eliminate or reduce any one of the three variables. flow probably wont work (they'll just find another suitable area to accumulate. sumps and overflow boxes are typical lower light, lower flow areas they like to dwell).
