QT has ammonia. What to do?

My QT all the sudden has an ammonia spike of .25. I have my Powder Blue in there who is doing ok, not really pumping at the gills and he is eating algae sheet. I don't have water ready but have started mixing a batch that could be ready in an hour or two if needed. Question is; should I just do a 25% water change or should I get him out and into my main tank asap? QT was cycled but I put some lace rock and cc in the bottom, probably where my ammonia spike is coming from. The fish has been in the store for 8 weeks, would it be too much stress to move him to the display tank? I don't want to lose him and I don't want my main tank to get ich. Any help would be great. Thanks

If the fish is healthy with no sigtns of ick etc I would get him out of that tank that has ammonia for it could kill him/ stress him out. I would do a slow aclimation to the main tank only if he is healthy which it sound like he is.

if he is new to your QT dont add him to your main tank, but if he has been in there for at least a couple of weeks then go ahead and add him everything should be fine
but if you keep him in the QT do some large water changes and some amquel helps out too

He is new to my QT only been in two days, but was in the store for 8 weeks without any ich. He is eating well and loofs good just scared. Conflicting info, but thanks for the help. I need to let my water mix for a few hours then I will do a 25% change and see if that helps. Thanks again for the reply.

moving them from tank to tank causes the most stress to fish, and since tangs are ich magnets you should be very careful it would be terrible if you add him to your main tank and he is infected with ich, also ich in not visible to the

eye until you see the cyst on the body of the fish

Yeah Joker I know they are ich magnets thats why he is being QT'd even though he was in the store for 8 weeks. I just don't want to over stress him or kill him from the ammonia. Gonna do a water change in a few hours and go from there. Thanks for the help.

Get that ammonia down with water change and I to would say get amquil for it take it out instantly he will die if ammonia stays present for it is very toxic to fish which I am sure you know. I have neve qt a fish and Have never had any problems I have 2 tangs and 18 other fish in there.
