QT questions?

let me get this straight. if i have a separate tank with no substrates acting as a QT but not necesarrliy under HYPO conditions, when i buy fish i should put it in this tank first for 3 weeks? if the fish i buy is diseased will it get cured by being in this separate tank? Also if i have ick in my display tank is it a bad idea to use a rock & LS or the water from that tank to put in the QT? OR just use premixed water only and if so what should i use then to cycle the QT?

The idea of a QT is that if a new fish that you get comes down with a disease then you can treat it. It also won't infect your main tank. Ich is a common fish ailment for fish and the chances of introducing it to your display tank is very high if you don't quarantine the fish first, and then treat it if it gets sick BEFORE introducing it to your display.
