What should go into a QT tank. I have an extra 10 gallon tank lying around and decided it would be a good idea to get a QT up in running.
So my questions are:
Is the 10g big enough?
What goes into the tank? any LR LS?
How long do i usually keep a fish in the QT before adding it into the main tank?
anything else i need to kno feel free to leave suggestions.

Depends on what's going in it. Maybe only big enough for one fish.

Don't need anything except maybe some PVC for hiding. Plus a heater and small power head.

Couple of weeks

Monitor parameters...smaller the tank, harder to keep in check. Make sure water is ready before adding anything.

I agree to everything but this one, you should QT for at least 30 days! :happyfish

Actually I wasn't really sure on that one. Thirty days seems like a long time. If everything is going well say after two weeks, what sort of problems (if they occur) usually show up. Can ich show up after a couple of weeks? Thanks.

Ich usually shows up pretty quick, but there can be other stuffs going on. It's on the safer side to QT for at least 30 days to be sure. I have once owned a Kole Tang who had parasites all over him and it took more then 2 weeks to show any signs. Some FW dip got rid of them. :happyfish

Yes! But be sure before you toss it into your main tank, your QT tank has the same salinity, PH, etc before you just toss him into your main tank. IF not, another acclimating procedure to the main tank would be required! :happyfish

I'm leaving a couple pieces of LR in my QT and I have a few hermits, snails, and one pesky damsel I couldn't catch. No substrate. It is a 55. My thought was to keep he water going well and as close to quality and paramters of my DT.
I have two heaters and a HOB filter, no skimmer.
To be honest I have not yet used this as I have not bought anything since I set it up.

It was my startup. I decided to go bigger so why waste the tank. Plus when I am ready for something like a Tang I will have space and not stress him out.

You don't want any live rock or inverts in your QT. Check out the QT information section at the top of the disease forum
