I am thinking about starting a QT tank. I have an extra 10 gallon tank laying around and thought about using that. Anyone give me some tips on if I should use that and if I do what should I have in it.

I would def use a QT tank. You want to make sure you dont introduce ick into your display tank with any new fish. 10 gal is probably on the small side but better than nothing.

a QT is definately a great investment. i have mine up and cycling right now. here is what is in it:
10 gallon tank
hood with 2 25watt lights
2 6in peices of pvc
a peice of dead rock
a sponge filter
a small power head
Oh and i started my cycle with the shrimp method, and so far it is working out great.

I had a 10 gallon QT tank, when I needed to use it as a hospital tank the ammonia spiked immediately and I ultimately lost a fish that I think I could have saved had it been a larger tank. I now set up a 29 gallon for my QT tank. Just my 2 cents.

Yea I also have a 28 gallon that I think I may use instead. Much bigger than a 10 gallon and it would be to use as a QT for a Copperband or sweetlips when I get one.
