How long does a QT tank have to be set up before u put a fish in for treatment, do u recommend new water or water from the display tank? Also i was wondering what the new fish for quarantine should be treated for, despite whether or not there is any visible diseases present?

Your QT would have to be fully cycled and preferably stable. Water changes could be done from the main tank water.
Look in the Disease and treatment forum for the sticky at the top about QT tanks and you will find good articles about setup and maintanence.

Here's a question Thomas, if you don't have any rock or substrate, where do the nitrifying bacteria hang out that you are supposed to cycle for?

It will hang out on anything, glass, powerheads, plastic, your heater. But hopefully where it can colinize the best like in your filters. Its always best to have something for your fish to hide in when in QT, some people use PVC pipe which the bacteria will cover that too.
If treatement is ongoing and you remove the sponge with the bacteria then this is why you are doing water changes from the main tank, to use some water that has been processed and clean.

I was thinking along the lines of popeye or the use of Maracyn or somthing like that, deffinatly not hypo. So if you were going to do a water change on a QT that you are using hypo on would you recommend simple aged new saltwater?
