I the market for my first fish. Just wondering, I have my Qt set up and running, but I have no other fish in the tank.
SO would I have to QT the fish for a full 4 weeks, OR will a week or two be fine to make sure the fish is in good health?

It is your call. You should QT for a minimum of 3 weeks but you could do it in the DT if you want. The risks is that your new fish has some kind of disease (Ick) that could infect your DT. In that case the fish would need to be moved into the QT for treatment and the DT would need to lay fallow for several weeks (4-6).
If it were me, I would QT the fish for the full 3+ weeks before introduction.

The idea is 2 fold, one to ensure you remove the parasites living in your fish. Ich is the most common, gestation for that is 3 weeks. That is why you'll see people say you need to have your fish qted for 3 weeks.
The other is to make the transition from where ever the fish is from to its new environment, make sure it is eating. And you can observe the fish since it is an empty tank. Alot of times your new fish will get lost in a larger display with other fish in here and lots of hiding spots, and it allows the fish to eat without competition while it recovers from its trip around the world.

You took the time to set up a QT/HT. Us it and not your DT for new arrivals a DT that has never contained a disease is a real rarity give your self that rare opportunity to have just that

Oh my gosh... ONE day short of exactly 3 weeks, I notice flukes on my wrasse!
Definitely without a doubt utilize the whole 3 weeks.
You can do hypo or just watch, but remember that tangs can take 4 or 5 weeks before you see their spots... I learned THAT the hard way...

I would hypo any new tang. Most fish I watch for a month. If you don't quarantine your new fish and it has a parasite, then you will have to fish it out of there. Then you will have to treat the fish in QT while leaving the display fish less for 6-8 weeks. You have the QT, use it. You can add any inverts though since there are no fish in there.
