Ok, I am setting up a 10 gallon QT.......all params are where they should be........EXCEPT one. Yesterday I tested it and the ammonia was 0.........now its up around 8ppm. I used a cup of sunbstrate from my display......all params perfect........my only question is.....what the heck?? why did this happen?

Has the tank cycled?

That is a large jump..
First I would check the test kit against another one.
Also, just a guess here, If there was alot of waste in the substrate you moved, it could cause a spike. If it did, I would be concerned with my display tank.
