I purchased a Chevron tang a month ago. I Qt'd him for three weeks. He looked great when I placed him in my show tank. A week and two days after placing him in the show tank he has signs of ICH. He's eating great (garlic soaked food) and, the cleaner shrimp are working him over. I turned on my UV Sterlizer and started a kich ich cycle. My water test all show good and I had done my bi-weekly water change this last Sat.. Do you think I should take him out and OT him again or continue to see if he improves in the show tank?Do you think the water change stressed him out?..salinity, PH, and temp. of water were all checked before and after the change and were matched.

What level is your salinity at? HYPO in a QT HAS to be 1.009. Ick can survive on fish even if you QT. So IMO your not really doing much except keeping the others from getting ick.

Fish that have ich, should be treated. Biological cleaners and garlic are certianly not a cure for ich.
All fish exposed to ich should be treated.
The only viable treatments for ich are hyposalinity and copper.
Hyposalinity is the treatment of choice.

I am using Cupramine in my QT at a constant 3.0 from the on set of ich which was about a week after I brought him home. I left him in there for two weeks...after about four days of copper I saw no signs of ich but kept in for the remaining 2 weeks. He's always eaten great and today he ate like usual and there is noted improvement of the appearance of ich. Now you can only see it on one fin, not like Sat. when I saw it on both fins and his tail. Should I take him out and put him back in the copper?

Are you sure it is ich? Why don't you use hyposalinity, rather than then copper?

I do not have a good salinity measuring tool, arm, meter to Hypo. I'm sure it's ick today he does not show any signs of it. Tomorrow will be the be the 13th and final day in the kick ich cycle for treatment. I think I will run kick ich cycle one more time in the next 13 days just to be sure. I think the water change stressed him out...it's my ubderstanding ich is ALWAYS present, but only when a fish is stressed it appears. Everything I read is very confusing...is it always present? do all fish have it? Will my tank continue to have it?

Sorry your confused..I use cupramine in my QT tank. The fish is now in my show tank. If you read my entire (beginning to end :))
I was asking if I should put him back in the Qt tank or continue to use Kich Ich in my show tank? :)

Forgete the kick ich treatment....if it didn't work, then its not going to now.
Put all your fish in QT and use hyposalinity. A good refractometer can be bought online for $70. Otherwise, you can get a good glass hydrometer and use it.

Thank you I'll try and by one today...and QT the fish. Is it true that ich is ALWAYS present? I was told "he's a tang you will go through many bouts of ich". I hope I can catch him again last time I nearly tore the tank apart trying to catch him
