Quarantine tank/hospital tank

From reading the various posts and learning my lesson with the store water into my display tank, it's time to get a quarantine tank. Question - can the QT double as a hospital tank for medications if a fish gets sick? What size should it be and what should go in it. I don't have alot of room and want to maximize space as I do want to eventually(once I get good at this) get a small reef tank going as well. Thanks for the information.

I also use a 20g-I used to take it down and set it up as needed-but I just leave it running now. There easy to get going because you can add media, substrata from your main tank. It doesn't need to be fancy, just essential stuff. If you need it as a hospital be sure to do a thourough cleaning and replace filter media bfore using it as a qt again.

I use the QT as a hospital tank, too, and once again, if I want to add a fish for quarantine, I do a big clean-out. I also leave it running all the time, with a damselfish in it to keep the biology up.
