I'm pretty new at the whole saltwater tank thing. I just got my first fishes on the weekend. I keep reading about quarantine. I understand what this means, but what exactly do i do to quarantine new fish.

To quarentine fish, you are just putting them in a seperate tank, not to put any diseases of the new fish into the main tank. I would leave the fish in quarentin for 2 weeks. This way you can watch the fish and if it gets any disease (ie ick), you can treat it without contaminating the main tank.

a qt tank is a small tank that is used to keep your show tank healthy. It is a smaller tank used to keep new fish in for a few weeks. Most sharks here say 3 weeks. The most basic setup will cost about $50 if you don't have anything laying around. It is well worth money. It is also used for a hospital when a fish gets ill. You can medicate or treat them with out effecting your show tank. Does this help?

Should you treat new fish in the quanentine tank just in case? How about feeding Antibotics for the new arrivals? If so, which ones?

I don't. If the fish looks healthy for the first 2-3 weeks, I let them be. Normally if there are no signs of illness, don't treat. It can place unnecessary stress on them.
remember: If it's not broken, don't fix it.
