Is there any reason one of those all in one aquarium kits should not be used for a QT? They already have a filter and light, all you'd need is some rock for hiding places and a heater.
What do you think?

why not, all you want the q tank to do is house and keep fish a couple of days(@ 2 weeks), not build areef in right
i'd also have a piece or 2 of lr, oops, you said that, LOL

I will probaly just use fake rock, one book I read said to treat every new fish with a copper medication before adding it to the display tank.

instead of rock you can use pvc pipe tubes. They are easier to clean.
