just got back from atlanta this afternoon and thought i'd share some pics of the aquarium. spent 1/2 of saturday there and took the behind the scenes tour as well. the sky was still all hazy from the fires, and it smells very strong when you're walking outside. someone said that they're about 90% contained now. anyways heres the pics...

one more post after this one i promise... the CBB was in one of the regular tanks in the educational area of the aquarium (behind the scenes). the second pic is of one of the UPS crates used to ship the whale sharks.

last post of pics, and a couple of facts i learned. if the only exhibit at the aquarium was "ocean voyager" where the whale sharks are (6.3 million gallons) it would still be the world's largest aquarium in volume and population. the second most expensive animal to feed at the aqaurium are the leafy sea-dragons, and cost about $100,000/ year. the acrylic panels that make up the window on ocean voyager are two feet thick. the georgia aquarium was one of the only aquariums that opened debt-free, and is largly non-profit. the reef in "tropical diver" has about 40% live coral, almost all were donations.

It is a beautiful place. I feel very lucky to live 30min from it. I love it when relatives and friends come to town because the first place they want to go is the new aquarium. Been there 4-5 times now. Love it. I could sit in front of the ocean voyager display(whale sharks) all day and just watch.
