well I dont have one but I am planning on getting one once I have a very well established tank (needed for mandarins) and a good source of pods (also required) both kinds (green and psycadelic) grow to 4 inches. Im pretty sure that is theyre max. but these are very very hard fish to keep so you should probably do as much research as you can on them before getting one.

do not keep these fish in a nano and do not put them in a tank younger than a year

its more than LR if you have a tank with 100 pounds of live rock and been up for a month does not mean that there is a enough pods for this animal to survive
Its all about how mature your tank is :happyfish
just my 2 cent

thats why my first post said

you still need that amount of LR for the pods to grow on.

Maybe you should find someone on this site who has had experience in keeping those fish alive. You probably won't find too many of them in the nano site. I believe the concensus is that nanos are way too small.

a nano tank is totally two small, you need around a 125 gallon to support one...all they eat are pods...i have to wait 9 more months before i can even think about getting one...and i have a 125 with over 100lbs of live rock....just theres not enough pods yet...and if your not watchful of that the animal will die of starvation.

I've kept my Mandarin for about 2 weeks not with about 35 lbs of live rock. There are still many pods when i cut on my light in the morning. I have even noticed my Mandarin eating some of the frozen brine shrimp, but I guess Im just lucky. If you're willing to take the chance go for it.

I think this link is OK, and its a great study done by someone on keeping a mandarin in a nano http://joshday.com/mandaringoby.htm

lol, yeah you can keep them alive for a few months, or maybe if your lucky on a god given chance you'll make it a year, but remember in the wild these animals live for YEARS...not just weeks or months.
if your not responsible enough to have one of these animals and have a proper home for it leave it at the pet store. They shouldn't have to suffer because you just think they look cool.
Get a real reef tank. and support them right.
