hi,i will be setting up 2 salt water tanks,1 in our room which will be a 30 gallon with mostly clownfish, and another one in our living room which will be for larger more agressive fish..
now my questions are about the big tank im setting up..
1:the tank will be 100 gallon(was gonna use it for clowns)
now would i be able to put a volitan lionfish along with a few others in there?
2:the fish that mostly catch my attention besides the lion is a panther grouper, maybe a large angel,an eel,,maybe a snowflake, but not sure, and a trigger, not sure what kind yet,so can someone tell me if i can mix all these types in a 100 gallon tank, and please remember when answering, ill get them while there still small so the 100 gallon wont be a problem..let me know

Do some research on this and other sites. There alot of great books you can get your hands on. Did you want a FO tank or a reef in the 100? If so then the fish you are speaking of wont work. JMHO

ok,because of my new job i have to know alot about these fish..
and also all i do is read books and on the net,but asking a question like i asked is differint, i dont find those answers in books or the net, anyway.
well i found out from someone that i can put a lion with a panther grouper, ill prob get a dwarf/zebra lion with a panther grouper and nomatter what anyone says i can put more then just those 2 in a 100 gallon tank,im just trying to find out what other breeds of sw fish i can mix with them,i was told possibly a niger trigger..
so,again my question is what else can i put in a FISH ONLY WITH LIVE ROCK 100 gallon tank(plus fake plants and such, caes, ect) besides a panther grouper and a lion(dwarf or volitan)
thanks

How about a puffer like a stars and stripes puffer or a porcupine. I would get a chevoron tang to. What are the dimensions of the tank.

You can add a niger trigger and a snowflake eel..
Niger triggers are one of the least aggressive tirggers and eels are neat to watch and a snowflake eel is not hard to take care of. Or a puffer.
Heres my niger and he has tons of personity.

wow,very nice...
ok,im not sure of the mesurements of the tank, but all i know is im getting a 100 gallon tank for these fish(lion, ect)
and a 30-50 gallon tank for clowns and such..
to me it seems this would work in a 100 gal..
1 panther grouper
1 niger trigger
1 lionfish(either volitan or dwarf/zebra)
1 snowflake eel
+ what ever else can mix with them and fit,lol..
all else ill be putting in the tank are..
live rock(even though i dont want too :notsure: )
some cave type things
fake plants
fake coral(not real,lol)
and a 3 d background!
hmm,can anykind of large angel or tang mix in with these without being eaten?
and would these 4 i said, plus maybe 1-3 more fish fit in a 100 gal?
thanks for the replys, and that niger trigger you have is awsome!
also,i read storys on here about snowflake eels killing niger triggers and lion fish..umm? :notsure:

If you want then dont get a eel and get a yellow tang or some type of tang. Niger triggers get 1' and if you buy a 6'' niger then you should be fine as long as the eel in around 1'

hmm,it does worry me getting an eel,i really want one,but i dont want what happend to that guy to happen to me(killing niger and lionfish)

you gotta be kidding me! hippos get ich!
dammit,i had so many problems with my clown loaches(fw)with that dam sickness, aww crap,in that case i wont be getting a hippo tang

hmm,so far its
niger trigger
panther grouper
lion fish (dwarf or volitan)
im still thinking if i should get a snowflake eel,man there nice but i dont wanna check on the tank one day and everything is dead..hmm...

sweet man thanks for the advice,i know what you mean about overstocking the tank,my uncle made that mistake to many times with fresh water fish, let me give you an example of why im taking over our fish hobby..
my uncle had a 33 gallon tank,not deep at all,maybe a foot deep,3 feet long,and about a foot high..
he set it up,a week later he came home with these fish(fresh water)
2 black redtail sharks
2 pictus(spotted)
20 cardinal tetras
8 zebra danios
2 colombian sharks
2 bala sharks
4 regular plecos
now, half of these fish didnt live very long, the tetras all died by the next day, half the danios died by the next day,1 bala vanished(not sure where it went)
then, that same day these fish were all lost,he came home with(get this, lol)
6 tiger barbs
2 more bala sharks
20 neon tetras
2 more black redtail sharks
and this is the money maker
a redtail catfish(that what its called?)
even for a young 12 year old i thought that was to much, his friend that was a

[hr]
fish hobbiest came over and flipped out,he told him that the catfish gets very big,and my uncle said no the guy at the lfs said it only gets 6 inches long, after alot of arguing, and more then half of the fish dieing..
a week later, all that was left in the tank was the 6 barbs,1 pictus, and the catfish...
anyway,it would take to long to tell all these mistakes my uncle made, but it carryed on with everytime a bunch would die he came home with a bunch of new fish including a silver arrowana..
so,for the last few months i've been reading about saltwater fish, and i know already alot about fresh water fish..and now im starting a new job at aqua tropical which deals in fw and sw fish,so i gotta study alot

anyway, the point of saying what i said is im not making the same mistakes my uncle did,i know not to overstock..
im still reading on what equipment is best, and about what to get,i know for sure i want a panther grouper they are awesome, the dwarf lion,sf eel,and the niger grouper..
um,guys i should have mentiond that after a little while, maybe a month or 2,im getting the last tank that i will keep the niger, panther,sf eel,and lion in,which will be double the size of the one im getting now(100 gallon)
they have 200 gallon tanks with a nice stand and all that for a good price, plus i get a discount :D
there is even a chance,i may skip the 100gal and go straight for the 200 gal,not sure though,so anymore oppinions about what else to put would be nice, thanks for the replys again

I think a snowflake eel would be fine :) . We had one in the past and it was great. They are easy to get a hold of, and not too much money - expecially if you dont' want to order online. Just make sure if you get one to secure the top of the tank...
Sorry to hear about your uncle
