Question about KH test kits......problems

Hey guys, I have been checking my KH in my 10 gallon with a Tetra-Test and I have been getting very high results.....like 17 to 19 drops....... Then I take a water sample to my LFS and they confirm the KH to be around 11.5 to 12 drops using the same exact test kit brand new out of the box. So, I figure I am doing somthing wrong, I go back and follow the instructions again, just as stated on the paper instructions and I still come up with about 17 or 18. What do I do now? Is there a possibility that this kit is old or somhow a defect? Could the KH change on the way to the LFS? I am at a loss here and don't know what to do.
I guess I should get a Salifert test from somewhere?
Thanks for all the support guys!

Hey Joe,
Funny seeing you in here.

The other funny thing is, I have almost the same exact problem. My KH has been sitting at an average of 13. But I checked it on Monday am and its sitting at 19 :help:
Had the wife take a sample in to have it tested and low and behold it was at 19. Now I am doing a gradual calcium increase to try and get it down. Oh well. Always something.
Good Luck

HA! Good to see you here as well. Your tank looks awesome by the way.
Yep, 19 confirmed twice is pretty high. Can I have some of that? I guess I need to buffer it up right? Still kinda confused as to what to do to raise it. I guess I need to spend a little more time talking to JB "DO A SEACH" Turner!!! :hilarious
