hey everyone hope your all having a nice day... i need a few opinions please my mom is having some problems with her mushrooms,,, its started about a week ago they started to draw up and now there deattaching and flowing in the water and layin all over the bottom of the sandbed... we noticed earlier some have even died,, they seem to have there mouths opened up,,, the strange thing is she hasnt done nothing different at all and all of the parameters are great,,, i even went home and got my test kits and tested it all myself with my fits and nothing is bad at all... do you have any idea what might be happening to them?? the yumas were acting up also but they are looking much better now.. when she first noticed this happening she done a water change but still nothing seems to be helping any of your advice would be greatly appreciated she loved her mushrooms the most of all in her tank and they were stunning beautiful and now look terrible... help please if you can..... i have read they will propagate themselves and would blow up and deflate to move themselves to new locations,, what i dont understand is why they are dieing also?? everything else in the tank is doing great.....

hey thanks for responding,,, the water parameters are great:
nitrate:-0
nitrite:-0
ammonia:-0
ph:- 8.2
phosphates:-0
salinity:-1.025
calcium: 450
her tank is a 125 gallon she has two lights on it because of the length im not completely positive of the wattage i know its whats its suppose to be because she had drfostersmith do her wattage for it... yes the water flow was good where it was located she has 2 powerheads on it plus alot of flow from her filter and when she uses her skimmer its alot of flow some of the stuff gets upset when she turns it on but not the mushrooms there not near the flow from it.... hum dont know what else to add hope this is good.....if you need anymore info just let me know i will do the best i can,, i can call and ask her the specific wattage of her lights if you need me too.... the strange part about it is shes had these mushrooms for a long long time and everything has been exactly the same nothing changed ...thats whats weird....

The lighting should not be an issue. Shrooms do not require intense lighting and if you ask a business for lighting suggestions I sure would hope that they offered your mom top of the line equipment.
As for flow, shrooms do not like a lot of flow. High flow will keep them closed up and shriveled up. I have had shrooms detach and float all throughout the tank. I have seen them get so small that they resemble a small piece of crushed coral and then come back to life.

thanks for writing ,,, yes she has top quality lighting there were purchased from a company weve dealt with the entire time weve had our tanks,,, i dont think thats the problem cause theyve been fine until now and so are the water parameters,,, and the only thing thats showing signs of this is the mushrooms not one other thing in the tank has been affected,, ive read they can do this if they have gotten to thick on the rocks there on and hers were getting really crowded alot of them are starting to look alot better now,, i guess its just something there going through and will just have to wait it out and see what happens with them,, thanks for your help,, it sounds like yours have done the same exact thing hers are doing now,,, so im hoping hers will have the same out come as yours,,, thanks so much for writing...

thanks for writing ,,,, she switched them out herself and she gradually used the lights until everything adapted,,, and it went fine....
no not all of them have detach some are still on the rocks alot of them are however in the sand and different places where the current has blown them and she keeps catching them and putting back near rocks so they can try and reattach themselves... i dont have a pic now but if i go visit with her tomorrow i will get one and send it to you,,,and let you see what you think about it...thanks so much for offering your help.....

Sounds to me that you have a great tank, when mushrooms detach from their rocks they are migrating to newer areas to "set up shop". If you look at the ones that are still left on the rocks do you see a very large mushroom? This is usually the mother, or parent, mushroom. The ones floating around the tank are offspring of this one, and will eventually attach, or you can help them find a spot to attach to. This new one will start a new colony of mushrooms. This is how they multiply. They do this when all the perameters, and lighting, flow are optimum for them. Good luck with them.
