Question About My Tank

I have a 90 Gallon cycled tank. It's been a work in progress for about a year now. It currently houses 1 Percula Clown,1 Maroon Gold stripe Clown, 1 Yellow Tang , 1 Coral Beauty, 1 Butterfly fish, 1 Black Seahorse and finally 1 Chocolate Chip Starfish. I have a couple questions and would appreciate any help ya'll can share. This is my first Saltwater tank so I'm still learning the ways. I have noticed in the last 3 months or so a brownish film like algae forming on the glass and crushed coral flooring. I clean regularly but it seems that within the week its starts back. I have heard that lighting has a lot to do with this form of algae but the tank is in a relatively dark room during the day and at night when I feed I will let it stay on for less than 4 hours. I just recently purchased the Chocolate Chip starfish in hopes that it would help with the cleaning process. My question is what other types of cleanup critters would be suitable for my size tank & that will get along with the fish, seahorse and star?? now my next question...I just got the Black seahorse as well. This also is my first experience with them. The store owner were I purchased her said he fed her Bloodworms and Brine Shrimp after de thawing. She excepts it but it doesn't seem to keep her interest. She was in a much smaller tank at the store and he said he would wave it in front of her to make her think it was still alive. I live in an area were live food is impossible. Is there any other way to feed her or any better types of foods ?? Thanks in advance for your help.

I would guess if its a brown alge it is probably a diatom bloom if you use declorinated tap water. It is caused by silicates in the water...Try using RO water if you dont already..If you do use RO I would experiment with duration of the lighting.

I had the same problem in a tank that I purchased for a friend. I cut back on feeding and did water changes a litter more frequently. I also added a protein skimmer. Now with out my intervention, its all gone....

Sorry didnt read all of you question, I am almost positive it is a diatom bloom, a choc chip star will primarily stay on the glass, which wont help you...I once had the same problem as you and was sucessful in getting rid of it with blue leg crabs and RO water. As far as the seahorse, I have never tried to keep one...Good luck!
