Question about my White Sebae Anemone

A couple of months ago I bought a White Sebae Anemone from my LFS before I knew anything about white anemones. I'm happy to say that he is starting to turn brownish, inflates and deflates, so I beleive that he's doing ok now. The question is, is it normal for it to never move nor plant it's foot? In the time I have had it it has never once moved on it's own (it gets shoved around pretty good by the sebae clown that's hosting it). I guess it is young since it's only about 3 inches across when fully inflated, but are they immobile until they get older? It bothers me because I have dug a little hole in the sand and placed it's foot in it to only have the clown dig him out and I'll find him upside down on the sand someplace else, or I'll place it in a hole in the LR and the clown will end up shoving him back in the hole or knocking it out with all it's wallering around it does to the anemone. I love watching the clown with his anemone buddy, but I'm just worried that the clown is going to harm the anemone by flipping him over or shoving him back in a hole where he can't get any light. Anyone have any insight on this?

It is very common for it not to move once it has found a place it is happy with. However it is not common at all for it to not plant its foot. What type of lighting do you have? And are you spot feeding it? I agree that buring its foot deep in the sb is a good idea but you may need to isolate the clown from hosting it until it gets comfortable with its surroundings. It sounds like it is being irritated by the clown and cannot get comfortable. JMO

PD is probably gonna get in here but until then I would stop messing with it. You are stressing it by placing it where you want it. Let it be and I think it will attach when and where it wants to. JMO

PerfctDark, that's just it. It has never moved on it's own so I don't see how it's found a place that it's happy with. Perhaps it likes the place where it is now. I have a Tek Light with 2 10K T5s and 2 blue T5s. Yes, I try spot feeding it with brine and mantis shrimp, and the clown takes alot of flake food back to it also.
Spanko, so what you are saying is that when it gets flipped upside down on the sand bed or upside down between two rocks that I should just leave it alone?

Sebae anemones although have no real prefrence to where they reside. If your lighting is sufficient they are often found buried in the SB. Your profile says 78gal tank. What is the depth of the tank? Your anemone can start to get its color back from spot feeding and marginal lighting. Before you think I am flamming let me explain. LOL. The depth of your tank is as important as the type of lighting you have. So, even though you have the tek set up 4 bulb fixture if your tank is over 24" deep then your anem is prob still not gettng enough light. I agree with spanko to not move it around, however I would sort of help it by placing it on or wedge it, (not too hard) in a piece of LR closer to your light source. Also they enjoy moderate flow so make sure there is a power head close by. These anemones are recomended to be housed under metal halide lighting but closer to the waters surface with your lighting you should be just fine. I would also caution you to keep an eye on your clown fish. They can be very disruptive to an anemone that is trying to get comfortable.

It is 21" deep.
Thanks for the advise. I'll try moving it up onto the LR to get closer to the light. I'll let you know how it turns out.
I'm looking at a 150G tank a local guy has, and since my 48" lights won't fit on it I'll look at getting MHs for it if I buy the tank.

I have a very large happy sebae that actually fastened it foot to the underside of a small arch in a rock I placed next to it and funneled out to open at the side of the rock and I have seen before that these anemones seem the most comfortable doing this. I don't know if it will work the same for you, but you could try placing a rock beside it to see.

If you have a QT tank set up, I would remove the clown fish. Let the sebae settle in. Sounds like the clown wont leave it alone. My monster sebae hasn't moved in 2 years, foot in in the sand. My little sebae was up on the rocks, but moved down to the sand and is now attached down there. They are one of my favorite anemones. Here is a picture of the monster. It can reach all sides of 30g cube now.
