Question about snails

I was wondering. Like hermit crabs, do snails change into new shells or does the shell some how expand as the snail grows. Sorry if I come off as a newb. I just never heard of a snail changing shells.

Oh. So the shells they are born with continue to grow as long as there are acceptable calcium levels in the tank?

yep. They are actually amazingly fast growers. At least the asterea snails are.
I got mine in september, or august, and they soon became covered with brown diatoms. But then by november, I actually noticed white shell. this white shell, which hadn't had time to be covered with diatoms was like 1/2 - 1/4 an inch long

Sorry to jump in on this thread, but do you need to add extra calcium to the water for snails to grow or will the calcium in the salt mix be enough?

If you don't have corals like Acropora sucking up calcium, your water changes will be enough.
