QUESTION ABOUT XENIA

Wanna take out my live rock from my old tank and add it to the new tank. Here is my question. In my new set up I will have a live rock tank set up seperately from my display. If I place my old rock in there will the xenia that is all over my live rock spread to the display considering it will not be touching? This stuff is brown and IMO looks ugly. I want no part of it.

Pretend you are a crab and break a little pc. off by accident. Whoops! Let it be to roam with the flow and settle where it will. Then see if it pops up in a new place.
Just sayin..............

This is a nusance zenia. Thinking about it, it actually has even spread to the substrate. I cannot get rid of this crap. Can I dip the LR in something to kill it? Maybe boiling water? Or will that just kill the beneficial stuff on the rock too?

Im fine with it in a refuge. But will it spread through to the display tank?

No, Xenia spreads by dividing itself, it doesn't have spores that spread so nothing is in the water column to go through to the DT from the refugium.

Wow, that is so good to know!! I have decent amount of live rock in my existing display that I can now use in my LR tank. As lonng as this stuff dosen't spread to the display tank that is AWESOME. Can you tell I hate this stuff?
I will put a picture up tomorrow to show how it covers everything. It makes it look like diatoms.

Well it does not look like that. It is extremely low growing, is brown and looks like little clovers. Maybe it is not Xenia? Unless there are different forms of it. This stuff is not attractive

Go to the coral section on this site and look at the xenia, because there are several differnt types. My guess is you have aiptasia and not xenia, in that case they have spores and will spread like crazy.
Better yet, can you get a picture of your problem?
Aiptasia picture attached:
