Question on Auto Top Off system??

I want to order an auto top off system. The question I have concerns the pump. I have an aquarium utility pump (submersible) that I use to fill my tank when I do water changes.
The system I was looking at shows the pump as external in the diagram. One tube leading to the reservoir and the other to the fish tank.
I want to know if I can use my submersible pump at the bottom of the reservoir and run a tube to the fish tank. Will that create a suction, and cause the water to return to the reservoir when the pump is shut off by the controller?

I have a submersible pump at the bottom of my reservoir. I avoid any "back syphon" by making sure the other end of the pipe/hose (the end where the water goes into my sump) is up above the highest possible water level. That end of the pipe never touches the water, so it's impossible for water to syphon back into the reservoir when the power is off, or any other time.

Thank you, I thought it would back up, I'm glad I checked.
So just adjust the hose leading into the fish tank above the water line.

got it. Any ideas on how to secure the hose, to do that? I am sure I could rig something up, but if there is a tried and true method I would like to hear it.

I'm sure you could plastic tie it to something, but I used pvc pipe, so it just hangs over the edge and doesn't move. Since you have not ordered it yet, check out how I did my whole setup. I think the topoff tank starts on Page 3 somewhere. It might give you some ideas....

Wow! I love, love , love your new house. That tank setup is great!

The pictures were on page 22 by the way. I can't run pipe from my basement like you did, so the setup you used won't work for me. But it does give me lots of ideas.
