Question on tube anemone

My tube anemone has done something weird while I was at work. It is like it shed its outer layer and left the base behind. The anemone still looks alive, but seems like its deflated. Is it dying or splitting?

As far as I know they dont multiply by splitting but through spraying egg and semen. sounds like its dying to me. Usually these are really hardy specimens but if they arent fed enough they starve, because they are nocturnal in the wild and do not photosynthesise. I would also check all your water parameters and make sure everything is where it should be. I wouldnt hold out much hope for it though.
