Has anyone attempted a reef tank with a filter system thats all natural ? by this i mean you use bacterias plants and other forms of live or natural living things to clean and filter your aquarium? i know it would not be any easy thing at all but could it work ? I would guess it could through a good amount of work o_O and the best part is if you set it up right you would not need to buy filter media for it. so has anyone hared of this or has anyone tried it ?

the only down side i could see to this is it would be extremely hard to move to a new location without having to start it over.

I have read tank with this but I have read if plant life is not properly maintained it will compete for food and will start to die off and all of the stuff it consumed will go back into the tank but in bulk instead of gradually.It can be done though.Still will need a sump to do this though

yes the sump would need to be much larger. i would think about 4-6 10g tanks to do a full tank filter. seems like it would be a cool thing to try but very hard >_>;

The one I was reading on had 5 little tank on different levels and it was like a waterfall down to each tank then back to the return pump.Cool set up but it was even said in that article that if it wasn't cut back frequently their is the chances of puting it all back in the tank.I think it was in a Anthony Calfo book I am not sure what book I read it in for sure though.
