Questions about Koran and Longnose Butterfly.

Hello! My husband recently bought two fish a Koran Angel(medium sized and changing) and a Longnose Butterfly. At the store they had info saying they were peaceful and reef safe, but on here it says the Koran can be bold and that neither are reef safe. We plan on setting up our reef tank more soon and I want to know if anyone has any experience with these fish and perhaps how they have done with other fish and reef tanks! Thanks!

I'd never keep a Koran, or any larger angel in a reef. The LN butterfly is 50-50 at best; IMO. If you do a reef; I'd sure research before buying. Getting any fish out of any tank is hard; getting a fish out of an established reef is next to impossible. Unfortunately; most lfs will tell you whatever you want to hear, or have no idea what they're talking about. The lfs used to be a wealth of info; that just isn't true very often now.

They "may" be "safe" at various stages of their development -- but putting 2 known coral eaters in a reef isn't going to turn out good. I'm guessing you got them at pet in a box versus a LFS.
Nice fish -- bad info unfortunately

"Pet in a Box" is a great name. Too bad these guys + the online dealers (who really know their stuff, IMO) have made it very hard for a dedicated lfs to thrive.

Yeah, I would consider an adult Koran Angel neither "reef-safe", nor particularly peaceful, not that adult Angels are outright killers, but they do get very bossy. Not sure what size tank you have, but a Koran gets very large, I would say a 150 gallon minimum for an adult Koran.
