Questions about Passer Angel

I think it's called a Passer Angel anyway...
A friend of mine is military and has to move. He's given me his Angel which I know is going to be to large for my 55g tank. As of right now, he's in there and happy, eating good.
My questions are, how long do you suppose I have before I need to get a bigger tank for him? Right now, he's probably about 1 1/2-2 inches.
The LFS will not take him back for any kind of credit so I guess I'm just gonna have to make the best of it.
Second, he's been eating the algae, brine shrimp and mysis. I read they need sponge also... is that correct?
I was really hoping to get a dwarf angel for my tank, now I'm not sure if I can have one with him in there? Can they be mixed until I get a bigger tank?

Hi,
I am no angelfish expert.
I know they need sponge in their diet, they make an angelfish food you could feed it. Figure an inch a year on the fish. At least that is what tangs grow. I wouldn't add another angelfish.
