Questions on 40 gallon breeder build...

ok, I'm wanting to setup a 40 gal breeder. I'm currently getting my goodies and ducks in a row to make it happen.
I have the following already:
40 gallon breeder which I drilled for reef synergy overflow
20lbs of dry Fiji live rock from bulk reef supply
3 bags of Fiji sand

Now for the questions...
what powerheads would be ideal for the tank and how many?
would a AI Prime be enough or would 2 be enough?

thanks in advance

For flow I use 2 Jebao RW4s, one on each end of the tank. Were I to buy them again i'd go up to the next size, especially since they are adjustable. Coral like lots of flow.
For the lights, I'd get two. One won't quite cover the full width. If you are going to keep coral you'll be happier with two, it won't limit you as much.

Ok here's an update...
Picked up a pair of ai primes...Also got a tub of Fiji mud starter thing from bulf reef supply...almost have the tank all plumbed.
Now how do I use this mud?? With me using dry Fiji rock from bulf reef supply, carib sea pink Fiji sand, do I wait and use mud after tank cycles? Was thinking about using a trash can and start now on curing rock...will be atleast another week before I get tank in its spot.

Mud should be placed in a refugium separate from the main tank. This is so that when you discover that it is detrimental you can simply unplug it from your system.

As you can tell, I'm not a fan.

Perhaps someone here that has had success will chime in. I would defer to their experience.

yeah...I knew mud went in refugium...my question was more do I put it in there before tank cycles or after?
never used stuff before...got it and the red sea package thing for a gift...the one with bacto and koralina algea grow...using dry rock as well...

If the mud is packaged then it can go in anytime, before, during, or after the cycle. If it's freshly harvested (from a saltwater source) then I would suggest waiting until the tank cycles. Since you already have it in hand it should go right in.

Bulk reef supply has wonderful customer service. You can just call them and they can walk you through it. I call them all the time with plumbing questions.

well heres an update on my build...
boy was the mud a nightmare...turned whole tank and refugium into missisippi river mud...had about a 1/8in thick coating
of mud on sandbed,rocks,powerheads, etc.
But after multiple daily rinsing of the filter sock it finally cleared up took almost a week and a half.
Just coming out of the diatom stage added my clean up crew....rocks look almost like the new dry rock i started with.
lol
will post pics later....
