Hello. I have some liquid form Metronidazole left over from some previous vet visits with some other pets. I am just curious if work for getting rid of ICH. I know about Hypo and copper but I want to just weigh my other options. How do you use it and in what quatities. I have read about soaking your food in it. Can you put it directly in your tank and if so how much do i use. also what else is Metronidazole good for.(internal parasites????, bacterial????). Oh yeah and is it Reef safe. Thanks -Mark

Metronidazole is an antibiotic which can be used in saltwater aquaria. I have no experience with using it to treat fish diseases. I also have rarely seen the moderators recommend it.
The only antibiotics which can be used in marine aquaria are ones which leave the bacteria responsible for the cycle alone. Antibiotics are usually not recommended to be used in a display tank because some of the other breakdown processes will be inhibited and waste products may accumulate.
In Humans, metronidazole is used primarily for anaerobic bacterial and internal protozoal parasitic infections. Unfortunately it seems to have no effect against ectoparasites like ich. It won't do any good. It is more likely to kill off some of your beneficial worms in your live rock and live sand.
I would also be very careful about using a medication for another species in a fish tank. There are many other products in most medications (binders, coatings, flavorings, syrups, preservatives, etc) which could cause harm even if the medication was safe.
Hope that helps. One of the moderators could probably give you a list of diseases that could be treated with it. I just don't have that information.
