I am looking to purchase an existing tank which I found on craiglist that appears to be a great deal. My question is, the existing tank is a 110gal which has 7 fish. It is a fish only tank with 65lbs of crushed coral. I would like to change this to live sand, and also incorporate live rock as well. What steps would I need to take to do this, assuming that I transport the tank as is to my place. Thank you in advance for your time!!!
What im looking at includes the following:
5 MONTH OLD 110 GAL FISH TANK, BLACK OAK STAND,EHEIM PRO 3 FILTER, FLUVIL FX 5 FILTER 1000 GALLON AN HOUR, EXTRA LARGE CASTLE VERY NICE, 36 WATT ULTRA VIOLET STERILIZER, TITANIUM HEATER 400 WATT 5 MONTHS OLD,
DUAL LIGHT STRIP, ramora pro protein skimmer
FREE SALT WATER FISH WORTH 250.00 PLUS 65 POUNDS COREL ROCK FREE!
BEAUTIFUL LARGE FLAME ANGEL FISH, BUTTERFLY FISH, 4 INCH ZEBRA DAMSIL, HAWK FISH, COREL BEAUTY, 2 CLOWN FISH, SNAIL AND MORE !

Also what would be the best method of transportation??? Would I need to take out some of the water/fish and use smaller 10-20 gallon rubbermaids??? :notsure:

You'll need to take out nearly all of the water. Most aquariums aren't sturdy enough for the strain of all that water with the tank being moved. And plus, do you know how heavy that would be to move?
I'll leave the other questions to someone with more experience with adding LR to an existing tank. But I've moved some small tanks and don't envy you for the job at hand.

I'm looking to purchase the mentioned tank, and then switch to live sand and add some live rock.....maybe the best thing to do is to purchase all the said equipment, and then start from scratch???
Donate the fish, new water, add live sand, rock, etc???

Start pretty much from scratch. Ditch the crushed coral and go with LS. Do you have an RO system? I would start mixing up water now in a trash can. Starting from scratch will let you clean the tank with a razor blade and make it spotless and clean up all the other equipment. You will be in too much of a rush to do it right if you make a quick move. It will have to cycle again whether you keep the cc and water or not. If you like the fish, see if the LFS will hold them for you or give you a decent store credit. Remind him that you will be back to buy all sorts of other stuff.
Good Luck!

Not a bad price.

Any chance you can look at the tank first. Just make sure it is not cracked or leaking. I agree to start from scratch, reseach before you get it and make sure you have everything before filling the tank.
