Why is the amount of fish in a salt water aquarium different from the fish amount in a freshwater or brackish? I mean I got a 29G freshwater with 3- Gouramies each 4 inches. 1 Angel 5 inches. An Alge Sucker that is 8 inches, and in a saltwater 29G I could olny keep one 4 inch fish, why is this?

Good question, the reason is rather simple though. Freshwater fish are naturally found in a confinded area, whereas saltwater fish live in the ocean that just goes on almost forever. Get what Im saying? Saltwater fish are just used to endless space and that is partly why saltwater fish don't do as well as freshwater fish in capitivity.

Just thought I'd throw my 2 cents in here. Your right about the fact that fish in the ocean have more room. But more important I think is the fact that the water conditions in the ocean are far more consistant and precise than those in fresh water. Salt water fish are not used to change, and in an overloaded tank, the parameters will be all over the place. ;)
