Quick question about a film om my live rocks?

Started this tank up about two weeks ago, parameters have pretty much stabled out enough that I added a firefish goby yesterday that <aside from hideing always> appears to be well!. This isnt my first tank, but it is my first marine tank so all these little quirks that come with a marine tank are twisting my brain. lol.
At any rate I noticed this morning when looking for the goby, theres a film on the side of one of my rocks that I did some research on, but Im not entirly clear on. From what Ive read its either a mushroom, some form of new tank algea or formed by a worm or somthing that survived the tank cycling and is nesting?
At any rate here are a couple pictures.

Its quite see through, I dont discern anything underneath it except some black? substance. Mostly Im just concerned with it being adverse to my tank, or cleaning off somthing beneficial.
thanks in advance!

I see that you are already hooked. To me, it looks like a simple sponge. Nothing to worry about at all.
If you really want to see some creepy stuff, get a red flashlight or a regular flashlight with a red plastic opaque screen on it. Shine it into the aquarium at night and you will see a bunch of worms, crustaceans, and all manner of night life. Depending on how high quality or mature your rock is.

awesome, thanks guys. I am totally hooked to, but its been a long time coming to be honest. I had five freshwater tanks up at one point a few years ago, had to take them down, moved a few times and now finaly in a place I can actualy HAVE a tank. So let the madness begin -.-.
I was reading other threads and saw useing the red flashlight, Im going to have to try it, though Im betting it will make me keep my hands OUT of the tank. lol
