In my reef tank I have a brain coral sitting on an oyster... I've had them about 1-1/2 years. FOr some reason colupra has decided to start to grow all around it. Will this hurt them??? Thanks

Here is the kicker... I've had this tank for years. I've never put any colupra or alga in it. I haven't added LR for years. Also, Over the past 3 weeks this stuff has gone wild. Anyone know how or why?
I noticed the colupra is heading towards the oysters blow hole. At the rate this stuff is growing and attaching itself to corals I don't want to strangle anything.
Here is a better picture.
My Hippo tang hasn't even munched on it. I was hoping he would keep it in check.
