OK. flow in ur tank and flow in ur sump r two different things. tank flow should be 6-10gph. what should ur sump flow be. how do you figure out how much you lose(lift?) from ur return pump to ur tank. its going to be a 50-65 closed loop system.

Flow for a sump should be at a middle ground to accomplish two goals at least in my exp.
When you have a large sump with more flow, your getting the addittional movement in your display without any extra clutter. Larger sumps can displace more water, both dilluting any toxins in the system and can handle more flow without looking like some wild rapids ride at an amusment park.
Depending on sump and particular set up you can pull different numbers. Remember entire goal of a sump is to let it do its job, if flow is too fast then it is often too turbulent for the proccess to take place at maximum effect.

i also was under the assumption just from reading here and talking to people that a tank should have anywhere from 15+ turnover in the DT. as for the sump i have a 20 gallon with a 500gph turnover. it is working for me. i also have a 75 gallon DT with a flow rate of about 1200 to 1300gph

my sump is going to be a 20L. can any body give me baffle measurements from their sump? im so about to go bald from all my hair im pullin out.

it all depends on your overflow, return pump, and your plumbing. this all goes into effect on how you place your baffels
